Aspirations

Nature’s secrets under guard,
Wrapped secure in fine cocoon.
A tale of passion or impending ill,
Waiting to pass a test of time.

Springtide’s promise, like poetic words,
Leaves’ turned-up faces reach for the sun.
Winter frost gives way to ground,
Heavy dew drips from the bud.

Entangled stem of climbing rose,
Massive foots, thick and true.
Thorns abrade and bleed the soul,
Scooping spirit from its hold.

Perseverance, the ardent spike,
Pushing through the tangled canes,
Thrusting aside its tale of woe,
With the new verve from within.

Centurion’s thorn protects it well,
Sparing from all prying eyes
That would read before its time,
Cutting short its perfect rhyme.

Words and roses budding forth,
Through the briar, red with truth.
Sun-kissed, dewlets prompt new growth,
Unlikely wrappings soon unfold.

Display of passion, pain and pride,
The rose, our symbol of love and trust.
We write to tell of what we know,
In hope that all will let it grow.
